Sean Nelson, this is your last chance

I'm getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about it - H Is for Hellgate is going to play our last show for a few months tomorrow (Friday, October 26th) at the Mars Bar. There will be laughter, there will be tears, there will be hip-hop. That's all I'm going to say.

Also, in an effort to put this nasty, nasty year behind me/us, I'm going to quit Sean Nelson. That's right, I CAN quit him. No longer will his name grace our guest lists, our blog, or cross our bitter lips. Okay, that last one isn't true, but honestly, our faux obsession with Mr. Nelson doesn't hold a candle to the all-out battle that's going down over at We Wrote The Book On Connectors.

You'll probably miss us while we're not playing shows (or, you always miss us if you've never seen us play), so you should go to the Stereotype Records site and buy a copy or three of our album to tide yourself over.

Oh, but you can catch me, Jamie "JJ" Hellgate, playing on Halloween night at the Skylark Cafe in a Sleater-Kinney cover band with Teresa and Rebecca from Another Perfect Crime. Whaa-oh!!

Slowly rising in the ranks of search engine results

Someone stumbled across our little Tina Fey song. Well, as of right now, it's the profile song for the Tina Fey FanSpace. Maybe some other indie band prone to bouts of writing joke songs will write a better Tina Fey song and we'll be bumped. Either way, hilarious! If we're not on 30Rock by next season, I'm gonna be pissed!

Tina Fey!

Only two more shows in 2007

I've been a bad little blogger. We've had tons of cool stuff going on and what have I reported to you, kind reader of the H Is for Hellgate blog? Zero. I'm an a-hole.

In my defense, I'm knee deep in partially written songs that need to be fully written in the next few weeks so that we might learn them before we go to record our next album at Avast! (!!!) in December. Stoked. So, so stoked.

Here are the cool things I've failed to tell you about:

1) Our mini-tour of Spokane, Missoula, and Portland. It rocked the m-f'in casbah. We love those towns so much, we want to take them behind the middle school and get them pregnant.

2) We played live on KEXP. Imagine the anxiety you might have if you gave a speech to about 10,000 people. Then, imagine those people being invisible. It was a weird combination of totally fun and totally stressful, but in the end, it ruled and I hope we can do it again in the future. You can stream the show until 10/13 at kexp.org under the streaming archive section.

Finally, as the title of this post states, we only have two more shows remaining in 2007. November and December have been set aside for a retreat into the back country of northern China where we'll study several styles of martial arts, become chess masters, raise cattle, and live off the fat of the land.

Thursday, October 4th at the Sunset Tavern with Bad Dream Good Breakfast and Bronze Fawn
Friday, October 26th at Mars Bar with Juhu Beach and X-Ray Press

I'm currently crapping my pants over the awesomeness of the line up of both of these shows. ATTEND!
